PD Plumbing Supplies is a family-run business based in Buncrana, County Donegal in the north of Ireland. Established in 1974, the business is now providing a livelihood for a 2nd generation of the family. As eCommerce has come to define and re-shape how many commoditised products are sold, the business made the decision to move online six years ago.
The company prides itself in supplying top quality products and in excellent customer service.
Focusing on the market for heating products, it specialises in Riello domestic oil burners, Grant central heating boilers and Firebird central heating boilers, and supplies the complete range as well as spare parts. The business sells worldwide, but identifies its key markets as the UK and Europe. The team of 5 is led by John McBride, the son one of the first generation that established and operated the business.
PD Plumbing Supplies carries around 400 different lines and sells them through eBay Store and Amazon Storefront outlets and its heatingpartswarehouse.com brand eCommerce domain. “Processing 200 orders a day manually took up a lot of time,” says John McBride.
With stock held at their site in Donegal as well as at third-party warehouses in Ireland and by Amazon, fulfilment can be quite complex, especially when it’s done through hand processing paperwork. John McBride says: “We wanted to take things to the next level, to make things more efficient and to free up time so that we could develop the business. Although payment is handled through the online stores, customer invoices and delivery labels and dealing with consignment tracking numbers took up a lot of time.”
ChannelGrabber was chosen to simplify order processing by enabling invoicing, labelling and consignment tracking information to be managed with much greater ease and efficiency. Automating repetitive manual tasks means the team at PD Plumbing Supplies save an awful lot of time. ChannelGrabber enables management of multiple sales channels by bringing together listings, inventory, billing, shipping and messaging across any combination of supported eCommerce platforms and marketplace webstores.
The solution synchronises eCommerce and marketplace listings as well as enabling condensed transaction data from Amazon and eBay to be processed into customer invoices and labelling. Consignment tracking information is also readily exchanged with the online systems used by carriers. ChannelGrabber supports the integration of Amazon and eBay stores with eCommerce stores built on popular platforms such as EKM, Shopify and WooCommerce, and enables integration with key UK and international carriers, including UPS, FedEx, TNT, Yodel, DPD, Parcel Force and Royal Mail.
At the moment, the business has no plans to implement eCommerce for its own website, pdplumbingsupplies.net, but intends to continue to leverage the capabilities of Amazon and eBay, as well as its heatingpartswarehouse.com brand to provide shop windows through which to sell its heating products to the world. With Five Star ratings in both its Amazon and eBay stores, PD Plumbing Supplies certainly seems to be living up to its promise of supplying top quality products and giving excellent customer service.
As the company moves forward, ChannelGrabber looks certain to have an extended role as the team chase ambitious growth targets of 20% year-on-year, chiefly through expanding the product ranges.“There’s a lot of work to be done on the product base. Some products will be discontinued and replaced. Overall, the plan is to achieve a net expansion, so the four to five man-hours saved a day by the automation and other features in ChannelGrabber are really important to us,” John McBride says.
